Travelling to games in the APDL is a normal occurrence but we must consider the safety of that travel in winter conditions.
An ASA APDL Cold Weather Policy for winter travel can be found in the policies section or by following this link: APDL Cold Weather Policy
Since the travel recommendations are based on the policy above, under section 4 on page 3 is "Note - The final decision to travel lies with the parent/guardian of the athlete."
For additional communication between teams, when you click on your division and click on the team that you are playing against, there is a section on the right side that says "staff". Here you will find the emails of the team officials (yes this has always been a feature). I strongly encourage that team officials communicate with each other on Thursdays what the travel plans are for their team (ie. travelling down the night before, travelling the morning of, etc...). This will help to alleviate the uncertainty if a game will be played.
Please note, with the travel distance of Red Deer being approximately 1.5hrs between Edmonton or Calgary, if your team/individuals decide to spend the night that there is a risk "travel not recommended" is a possibility and the game may not take place. Please utilize the communication with your opponent early enough as it may be the basis for your decision to travel when "not recommended" has been posted. As per the note below, referees should be there should you choose to travel (they will be informed that teams may not travel)
This page will be updated on Fridays before 5pm to indicate if travel will be safe for the weekend. In the event that sudden weather changes or unsafe road conditions will occur Friday after 5pm, team officials and club representatives will be informed by 5am the day of the game.
Games for February 8th and 9th: Will Proceed based on current forecast
***The referees for the Red Deer games will not be cancelled as they require 48hrs notice. Should the teams agree to travel and play the referees should be there***
